Our emergency shelter located in Las Cruces, NM serves as the starting point for many victims of domestic violence after they reach out to us through our emergency hotline. A stay at La Casa’s emergency shelter means safety, respite, a place to reflect, assess and formulate a path forward. Our diverse team is compassionate, patient and trained to meet each individual where they are and to support them in transforming from victim to survivor.

In 2022, La Casa Inc. merged with The Healing House, located in Deming, New Mexico, to create La Casa Healing House and to expand La Casa’s services beyond Las Cruces and Doña Ana County into Luna and Hidalgo Counties.  We are the only 501(c)(3) non-profit emergency domestic violence program in the tri-county. For over 42 years, La Casa, Inc. has served survivors of domestic violence and their children with the aim of improving their quality of life.

Between our two shelters, La Casa boasts a combined total of 108 beds, making it the largest and most comprehensive domestic abuse service organization in the State of New Mexico. Sustainable progress is demonstrated through programs and services which include a 24-hour anonymous hotline; emergency shelter with a safe place for children to play, fresh healthy meals, empowerment and emotional support —safe and adequate housing for victims of domestic violence; basic needs, many of which are met through in-kind donations such as clothing, hygiene and household items.

La Casa, Inc.’s services benefit all persons in the community, regardless of income, however, over 80% of La Casa’s are very low income. Many individuals arrive at La Casa with no belongings or financial resources. Victims of domestic violence face an added challenge in their economic dependence, which restricts their capacity to leave abusive situations. This difficulty is particularly pronounced in rural communities with scarce resources for relocation, especially in terms of secure accommodations. However, with the comprehensive support of La Casa, individuals and families are given the resources and guidance they need to rebuild their lives and find safety, stability, and hope for a brighter future.
